The human body has several levels of structural and functional organisation. The various systems have very different structures. However, they consist of the same basic units: biomolecules and cells.

The cell is the smallest unit of life and performs the three main life processes: nutrition, interaction and reproduction. Cells differentiate and specialise to perform the different functions.

Cells with a specific function come together to form tissues. The tissues join together and interact to form organs. The organs join to form the systems, such as the digestive system, the circulatory system and the reproductive system.
