HUMAN SYSTEMS

https://www.zygotebody.com/

Zygote Body is a web page with an interactive 3D model of human anatomy. You can choose the layers to be displayed so it is a recommended resource to study the human body in 3º ESO. The way it works resembles that of Google Earth but applied to a human model

NUTRITION PROJECT.

Nutrition is a very important issue in our  healthy lifestyle. Thanks to the Mediterranean diet our life expectancy is the highest of Europe. Unfortunately, too many Spanish children and teens are changing these habits and they do not receive the suitable  nutrients needed to be healthy.  After completing this web quest and learning about the nutrients, food pyramid, and dietary guidelines, you will do  a report in order to improve the feeding habits of  many Spanish teenagers.

PROCESS:

Follow the process  and gather information to answer questions.  Once you have gathered the information, you will write a report that has two articles, a sample menu for an average 13-15 years old and a video that explains your presentation.

                                   ACTIVITY A
ANALYSIS OF A DIET

Objective

You are going to analyse the diets of two teenagers and check if they are balanced  according their sex and age.

Experience

Pedro and María are two siblings who are 14 and 15 years old. According their height, age and sex, Pedro requires about 12000KJ/day and María   about 9000KJ/day. Both have eaten the same diet.

Dinner
200g of milk
15 g of sugar
15g of batter
50g of bread
100g of bread
40 g of ham
500ml of water

100g of pasta
20g of oil
125g of pork meal
100g of tomato
100g of lettuce
150g of apple
50g of bread
50g of cheese
500ml of water

100g of bread
50g of chocolate
250ml of water

100g of green bean
100g of potato
20g of oil
One egg
50g of bread
One yogurt
10g of sugar
150g of orange

Both María and Pedro think their   diet is a balanced one. Are they right?

Data collection: Fill the table about food composition using the food composition table. Remember data refer to 100g of food.

Conclusion   Analyse if this diet is right according to  the age and sex of these siblings. What would you change for it to be a balanced diet?
